We would like to share with you some useful tips for greenhouse farmers.

Autumn is an important period for farmers who grow crops indoors. In order to get a high-quality, healthy harvest, it is important to consider many details:

  1. It is better to write an action plan:
  • What do we want to produce?
  • How much should we produce?
  • Target market (where should we sell)?
  • Counting the cost
  1. Before the start of production, the construction should be inspected, defects should be found and repaired, and irrigation and other systems should be inspected and tested.
  2. Crop care begins immediately after sowing the selected seed material. It is important that the seed material is of high quality, purchased from a reliable company.

Avoid purchasing homegrown seed because:

  • We do not know what we are buying;
  • Seeds can be virus-carrying, untreated;
  • Also, the seed material taken in the previous year can be pollinated by a related plant (for example, if we grow hot pepper together with sweet pepper, the probability that it will lose its taste in the second year is very high)
  • Certified seed material reduces many risks;
  1. Soil treatment – fumigation (the greenhouse requires well-protected and organized sanitary standards)
  • take into account the pest-diseases of the previous year and treat the soil with appropriate pesticides;
  • Soil plowing – cultivation should be done in accordance with the requirements of the target culture;
  • use of anti-pest netting;
  • arrangement of the entrance cabin and dezobarrier, which prevents the spread of various insects and fungi in the greenhouse;
  • We should also pay attention to the area around the greenhouse. It is not allowed to have grass, old branches, bushes and other debris near the construction. This will allow pests and fungi to move into the greenhouse.
  1. Breeding of quality seedlings
  • It is better to get seedlings from a special nursery, from which you are guaranteed to get quality seedlings and exactly the quantity that you order. This avoids the risks and extra costs required by an artisanal nursery, where we have to sow 20% and 30% more seed material. Stressed, unhealthy seedlings are always less productive, and resistance to diseases is reduced, which affects the yield very badly.
  1. transplant
  • It is better to transplant seedlings in the morning or in the evening, in stable weather.
  • Before transplanting, the seedling should be placed in the greenhouse for 1 or 2 days, where the transplant is to take place, so that the seedling gets used to the environment and takes place. We plant the seedling in a pre-prepared trace (it is better if the base trace is prepared).
  • After transplanting, it is necessary to water the plant. The first week is quite difficult for seedlings and we need special attention during this time. This applies to the temperature regime, irrigation, ventilation and moisture protection. It is not allowed to give excess water during transplanting. The plant should be watered in small portions 3-4 times a day, so as not to expel all the oxygen and root necrosis.
  • Also, for the production of vegetables in the greenhouse, crop rotation, high-quality pesticides and, if necessary, good consultation of a specialist are important.
