For lack of fertility, it is important to control the amount of microelements in the soil, such as, for example, zinc. It helps the plant in root development, rapid leaf growth and participates in many physiological processes. In particular, it provides structural stability of enzymes, DNA and RNA metabolism, cell division and protein synthesis, photosynthesis, auxin metabolism and fertility.
Although we need zinc in very small amounts, it has a great effect on yield (providing 0.4 kg of zinc per leaf in the early stages of vegetation can increase yield by 15-20%).
Why should we provide zinc from the leaf?
1) For example, corn needs zinc the most in the early phase, because at this time the root is less developed and its growth is slow, therefore it is difficult to absorb zinc in the soil from deep layers.
2) In early spring, the mineralization of the organic layer is slow, and accordingly, zinc is transferred slowly to the absorbable form, which is why the supply of this trace element from the leaves is the best way for effective absorption.
The lack of absorption of zinc from the soil can be caused by many factors, such as:
· Lack of organic substances
· Low soil temperature
Compacted soil (has less ability to develop roots at this time)
· High levels of phosphorus in the soil reduce the availability of zinc
Symptoms caused by zinc deficiency:
· Underdeveloped root system
· Growth retardation
Small leaves
· Shortened knee joints
· Late flowering
· Imperfect syllable
