What is “apple” frugivory? It is a pest butterfly with a wingspan of 18-21 millimeters, which damages various plant crops from the very first stage of development. This almost imperceptible harmless, covered pest lays 1 mm colorless eggs, from which light pink caterpillars hatch, eat the seed coat and move from fruit to fruit. For example, one pest can damage 5 apples. If you have an orchard of apples, pears, apricots, plums, and walnuts, be sure to watch for the insects that swarm around them while they are blooming, they may be destroying your crops.

When does the apple frugivorous begin to multiply?

Apple frugivory is characterized by three or four generations. From the middle of May, the pests actively cross, at this time the first flight of the hibernating frugivores begins. The imago, transformed from a nymph, lays about 30 eggs on a leaf or fruit at this stage of development, from which the first generation develops. At the end of June, the adult form of the first generation begins its second flight and lays new eggs, from which the second generation develops, and so on until the third generation frugivores hatch. What is the harm of apple fructification in walnut culture?

The damage caused by frugivory in walnut crops varies between generations. The larvae of the first generation cause premature fruit drop and reduce the yield. At the end of flowering, on the fruits damaged by the apple fruit borer, excrement can be observed near the places where the caterpillar enters the fruit. Early flowering varieties are the most affected, although nowadays the pest is actively observed on late flowering varieties as well. Larvae of the second generation enter the fruit through the junction of two walnut fruits. The caterpillar begins to move and feed in the fruit. After the shell hardens, the worm enters the fruit through the soft tissues at the end of the stem.

How to fight fruit eating effectively, with the right drug?

In walnut orchards, the spread of apple borer can be controlled by both pheromones and insecticide spraying. The selection of the combat method depends on the temperature, the size of the garden and trees, and also on the background of the dynamics of the spread of the pest. Pheromones help control pest numbers and increase the effectiveness of insecticides. Pheromones are installed in the garden in mid-May. After that, they are continuously monitored and the pest is quantified. Also, during this period, it is effective to use an insecticide, we use the insecticide Brandon , a representative of the family of avermectin compounds, which acts on the insect’s nervous system, causes muscle relaxation, as a result of which the pest stops feeding and dies. The following drugs against the pest are planned taking into account the development phases of the generations of apple fruit eaters, as well as the prediction of the application of the drug is made by observing the degree of spread of the pest through pheromones.
